Anger Management
Contrary to popular opinion, anger is not sin. The Bible clearly states, “Be angry, but do not sin”. (Ephesians 4:26). However, in the next part of the verse it also states, “Do not let the sun go down on your anger, so that the devil does not gain a foothold in your life”. The issue is not getting angry, but what a person does when they are angry. When anger becomes an out-of-control force in an individual’s life that results in physical, emotional, and/or mental harm to another individual, anger management skills need to be learned. Anger management skills can include both Biblical truths about emotions, behaviors and correct responses, as well as techniques that were originally developed in secular schools of thought.
When working with clients who struggle with anger management issues several resources may be used. These resource include:
The Anger Workbook by Les Carter, Ph.D. and Frank Minirth, M.D.
Celebrate Recovery Principles (developed by John Baker, Assistant Pastor to Rick Warren)
Worksheets from Wayne Mack’s A Homework Manual for Biblical Living.
