Through the Flood

". . . Thus says the Lord, who created you. . .
' Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by name, You are Mine.
When you pass throught waters, I will be with you,
And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. . . :

Isaiah 43:1-2a

Although this was a promise originally given to the nation of Israel, it was a word in due season for many people in NY state as June ended and July began. For many, the flood waters did overflow and overtake, but as I have spoken with many people throughout the past two weeks it has become evident among God's children that the waters did not overwhelm and destroy people's spirits or relationships with God. The flood in fact strengthened personal faith in incredible ways. In addition, relationships within the Body of Christ were also strengthened and cemented together as God's children came together during a time of devastation, fear, and loss.

We must keep in mind however, in light of these praises, that the harsh reality remains that many people have lost what they had in their basements, first floors, and even their entire home as a result of the flood waters. Included with these losses are family vehicles, irreplaceable keepsakes, and businesses. Although the flood waters have receded, the clean-up and rebuilding will take place over the coming months and even years. Please remember to keep these dear brothers and sisters in prayer as they begin the process of rebuilding their lives.

True Hope Marriage and Family counselors, Chad and Nichole Post, were flooded and lost an entire master bedroom suite complete with dressers and clothes, a desktop computer, a TV, VCR, a couch and chairs. I rarely ask outright for help for True Hope Counseling, but in this case I will. If anyone can help this couple out, please contact me at melissa@truehopecounseling.com, and I will pass on any message to Chad and Nichole. The clothes that were lost were mostly Nichole's and that included her entire winter wardrobe (the flood waters were muddy and ruined sweaters, etc). She wears a size 10 for anyone that can donate clothes to her.

My home was left dry, though most of our block was under water. I had a harrowing 3 hours as I attempted to navigate floodcovered roads as I tried to get to Richmond for the birth of my third nephew (I had not yet grasped the severity of what was happening as I left on schedule that morning). As I eventually began the return trip home the waters were even higher and literally rose as I drove through them. It was a very frightening experience to say the least! I was eventually stranded in Otego, NY for a day and night, but was eventually able to get home. (And yes, was able to get to Richmond 4 days later for the birth of my nephew who weighed in at 11lbs. 1.5 oz!)

Although I have not been to our offices yet, to the best of my knowledge they were unaffected as they sit on a hill in Endicott, NY.

Our love and prayers go out to all those affected. May God bless you.
